Formula SAE Electric - Michigan 2026

An all-electric race car, designed and built at Conestoga College.

Conestoga Formula Electric (CFE) is the active program inside Conestoga Racing. Electrical, mechanical, and business teams are building a compliant EV platform for SAE’s 2026 Formula Electric competition at Michigan International Speedway.

Current focus

What we’re working on this season

Accumulator & safety

Cell selection, segment layout, light-weight enclosures, BMS integration, TSAL/IMD logic, and all document packages required by SAE.

Vehicle platform

Suspension geometry, chassis fabrication, steering/braking ergonomics, cooling, aeros, and packaging the powertrain for quick serviceability.

Operations & business

Documentation, cost & design events, campus demos, charitable donation processing, and logistics for taking the team to MIS in 2026.

Team pillars

Three squads, one car

Electrical systems

  • HV accumulator, tractive-system rules, LV harnessing, sensor suites, safety interlocks.
  • Telemetry + data acquisition to accelerate testing and driver feedback loops.

Mechanical systems

  • Chassis concept, hardpoint targets, suspension, steering, braking, cooling, aero.
  • Manufacturing plans that keep the Cambridge/Fountain Street shops efficient.

Business & partnerships

  • Cost report, design presentation, sponsor engagement, donor stewardship.
  • Project management, risk tracking, and documentation for SAE inspections.

Knowledge base

COBRA and Aerovolt now live in the archive

COBRA (Baja SAE) and Aerovolt (Waterloo EV Challenge) informed how we run teams, but they are no longer active builds. Explore their history for inspiration while we keep the spotlight on CFE.

Support

Sponsorships vs. charitable donations

Financial contributions can be processed either as sponsorship (with mutually agreed deliverables) or as charitable donations through Conestoga College. Charitable donations receive a receipt and public acknowledgement, but they are not exchanged for advertising, logo placement, or other quid pro quo benefits.

Sponsorship

Work with our business team on a Bronze/Silver/Gold package aligned to the 2026 build. Typical deliverables include shop visits, technical talks, and design reviews—not paid advertising.
